Tips for Everyone #2

1. Don't be afraid of wines with residual sugar.
2. Rules are made to be broken - drink red wine with fish and white wine with meat.
3. Sommeliers are not always "out to get the diner". There are some out there who still dare to down sell.
4. Drink and read, drink and read, drink and read - the more that you know about a wine, the more delicious and satisfying it can be.
5. When in doubt, drink bubbly!

Our vineyards and our wines represent the pioneering spirit of men like William Matney, who more than 100 years ago settled the Applegate Valley and built the West. Their search for riches in gold more often became a life of toil and more humble lives farming. William built his own homestead here on this land in 1897.

We purchased the vineyard in 1998, looking for a lifestyle change. It was an opportunity to do something Rex had always dreamed of. Rex came from a farming background. When he was a boy he farmed his Grandparents farm in Yakima, Wa where they grew concord grapes for Welch's grape juice. With the loss of his mother due to breast cancer, we dedicated the vineyard and winery in her name: Rosella. We grow 5 varietals-Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and new plantings of Zinfandel and Syrah. It is our desire to grow the best fruit possible and to produce quality wines from that fruit. So, the next time you are in Southern Oregon, come see us along the Applegate Valley Wine Trail!
